Holiday Happenings

It has been a busy past couple of weeks so here is a brief recap of what we have been up to:
Tree Farm A couple of weekends ago Ben got to go on a special trip with Nana, Bampaw, and Aunt Mal-Mal to Watt's Tree Farm to pick out their Christmas tree. He had so much fun and even got to feed reindeer.
Polar Bear Express On Friday, December 5, Ben and I, along with Nana, Aunt Mallory, and our friends Meredith and Rachel got to go on a wonderful, magical trip on the Polar Express. It was a long night (the train station is 1.5 hours away and the train ride itself was 2 hours!) but the kids had a blast. Rachel is a good friend from school and church and she and Ben are really cute together. They pester the snot out of each other and kept us laughing the entire time. We rode the Polar Express to the North Pole and enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies along the way and a visit with Santa upon arriving at the North Pole. Santa gave each of the kids a bell. It really was a great trip....probably not an annual tradition kind of thing but great as a one time experience. Meredith made the brilliant decision that the dads would take Joe and Tyler (Rachel's little brother) in a couple of years if they want to go! showing off the green icing on their tongues from their Christmas Tree Cookies Telling Santa what he wants for Christmas...Santa finally had to cut him off :) Pretending to be a reindeer! Terrified faces upon being told that the train couldn't continue due to caribou on the track! Rachel beating up Ben :) Pacers Christmas Party The Pacers had a holiday party for families at Conseco Fieldhouse on Saturday, December 6 and we all had a ton of fun. The food was great...lots of breakfast choices so my waffle loving boys were happy! Ben loved all the activities. He decorated several ornaments, made puppets, got balloon antlers and we all had our picture taken with Santa. Karen with the leg :) painting ornaments with Joey, Daddy, and Benny Galactic Christmas Musical The church Christmas musical was a bit different this year. It was written by several members of our congregation and was kind of a futuristic take on the Christmas Story and Ben was an alien (hence the bobbers on his head!). It was really cute and Ben had a lot of fun singing but he HATED the headband he had to wear. I won't say that he has a big head (because my mom yells at me when I say that), but he does and he's a boy and therefore not used to headbands. It was pretty funny watching him wince in pain and irritation at the offending plastic sinking into his head. Moms Gone Wild! Last weekend I went to New York City with my best friend of over 20 years to celebrate both of us turning 30 this year. We had a wonderful time sightseeing, shopping, and taking in 2 shows (Mamma Mia and Chicago). I missed my boys, of course, but had an amazing time and was really grateful for the experience. Cherrylynn and I both spent most of the trip trying to figure out what we were forgetting (a kid or a diaper bag perhaps?) but also enjoyed being responsible for only ourselves for a couple of days...it was a rare but fantastic feeling! Loving the tree on Rockefeller Center One of Dean's friends from high school is a bartender at a famous restaurant on Broadway We didn't make it on the Today Show...but our sign did!! So that is what we have been up to the past 2 weeks! Crazy busy fun! While I was in NYC Dean took the boys to Breakfast with Santa and Disney on Ice. Dad of the year. I had the camera so we have no documentation of these events, but the boys all assure me they had a blast and barely had time to miss me :) We are gearing up for a great Christmas and are really looking forward to celebrating with our friends and family. This time of year seems to fly by at warp speed now that I have kids and I am desparately trying to slow down and take in the memories as they develop around me. The boys are at great ages for Christmas this year and I am really enjoying telling them the Christmas Story and also discussing Santa Claus and the logisitics of his reindeer! Merry Christmas!
