Start Your Engines

I know it sounds weird, but one of my favorite things about living in Speedway is the month of May. Everyone always thinks that must be the worst time of year to be a Speedway resident, but I really love all the festivities surrounding the race and being in Speedway you feel like you are truly a part of the action. We live about 2 miles from the track so we are comfortably far from the true traffic and craziness of race day weekend, but can still experience the fun. I also love hearing the cars from our backyard. I know, I have become a race fan. This is not something I planned, nor is it something that particularly pleases my father. Sunday was opening day at the track. Ben and I headed to church by ourselves as Dean had a Firehawk appearance. When Dean returned after Ben and I had a picnic lunch and had been listening to the race cars, Ben began begging his daddy to "please take me to the track!!" I know this is probably the last thing Dean wanted to do since he had just spent several hours there working, but being the amazing dad that he is, he went. The boys headed out for their adventure at the track and I stayed home to work...and relax! When the boys made it back a couple of hours later they had smiles on their faces and Ben was full of stories. In one exceedingly long, breathless sentence he notified me that "Dani (Danica Patrick) and Sarah (Fisher) were SO fast and the cars go so fast and they were so loud it really frustrated me!" I am not sure what word he was looking for there, but frustrated is what came out. Too funny. So if you are planning a trip to the track this month, make sure you stop by and visit Ben and I (and Dean if you can catch him at home, which is not easy in May!) and be prepared for those frustratingly loud race cars!
