It is quickly becoming apparent that Joe is a very competitive child...or at the very least the kid loves a challenge. I was chatting with him last night (he is a great listener) and mentioned that Cherrylynn's daughter, Cadalyn, was sleeping 5 hours a night at 5 weeks old. I thought that was a pretty cool trick and told Joey that I thought it would be great if he did that too. Not to be outdone, that is indeed what the little man did! He had his last feeding of the evening at 9 p.m. last night, was in bed by about 9:30 p.m. and woke up at 2:30 a.m. to eat. I was very impressed and incredibly well rested this morning when we woke up at 5:45 a.m. to eat again and start our day.
Another example of his willingness to embrace a challenge came the evening Joe was born. At about 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 2 I put on my pjs, which included my "I Love Ben" t-shirt. I told Dean that I was trying to anger the baby and encourage him/her to come out and earn his/her own t-shirt. I went into labor 1 hour later and Joey was born about 5 hours after that. Funny Joe!
Joey had his 1 month doctor's appointment today. He weighed in at a woping 11 pounds 7 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. Such a big boy! These stats put him in the 50th percentile for height and the 75-90th percentile for weight! I haven't checked yet to confirm for certain, but I am pretty sure those were the same percentiles that Ben had at 1 month. Ben was an excellent helper at the doctors office and closed his eyes and covered his ears when Joey had his hepatitis B vaccine. Joe screamed and Ben hugged him and said "I'm so sorry little buddy!" Melt my heart!
