It's A Sunshine Day

The good weather continued in Indy today with tons of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70s. The boys and I headed to the Zoo this morning to see how our animal friends were doing after a long, cold winter rest. Both boys loved the water area. We checked out the creepy eels and pretty fish for quite awhile and Joey LOVED the sharks. He kept bending down and peeking in the window and going "Wooooaaaaa." He really wanted to touch them and there is a petting area but his little arms were too short. Ben was really excited about the sharks as well but didn't want to touch them today. Ben's next favorite exhibit in the water area is the penguins. Joey surprisingly didn't care for them at all, but he did love the sea lion. He clapped his hands and pointed at the beautiful creatures.
Other hits included the white rhino exhibit, which is a hit due in large part to the bouncy bridge that leads guests out to the viewing deck, and the playground. The place we spent the most time though was the forest. There was an area where Joe was able to watch the two Alaskian brown bear cubs play (he laughed and laughed at them and seriously seemed to want to climb in and play with them) and Ben was able to sit and watch the Bald Eagle. He is not normally interested in the Bald Eagle (Buddy) but today the Zoo Keeper was feeding Buddy. She showed Ben the six huge white rats that she was placing throughout his "cage" and Ben desparately wanted to watch Buddy eat a rat. We hung out there for awhile but Buddy is evidently a shy eater so we eventually moved on and missed the rat feeding show. Darn. The Zoo Keeper was able to show Ben three "pellets" which are basically hair balls that Buddy throws up. Awesome.
After the Zoo we headed home for a picnic in the backyard. The boys were so cute sitting at the picnic table (which Joey kept climbing on top of). Joey was so proud to eat at a big boy table with his big brother. We played soccer and swang and Joey tooled around in his car. We had so much fun.
The only challenge with the beautiful weather the past two days is that we have created a bit of a monster in Joe. He wants to be outside at all times. The minute we pull into the garage he starts saying "ball, ball" and runs to the bin of basketballs, soccer balls, etc the minute he is released from the car. He cries hysterically and throws a fit when we pick him up and take him in the house. It is not pretty. If this is the price I have to pay, however, for enjoying some sunshiney days, then I will gladly accept my fate.
