Blessings Surround Us

In the Christmas Musical at church this past December, Ben sang a song that I loved, the chorus of which was "Blessings, Blessings, Blessings surround us." Ben would walk around the house clapping his hands and singing at the top of his lungs "BWESSINGS, BWESSINGS, BWESSINGS SURROUND US!" Well, today, in the quiet stillness of my house (which is a rare blessing in and of itself, the quiet that is!) I was reminded of all the "bwessings" that surround me. The day didn't start out so well. We were all pumped for Ben's first basketball game at 9:00 a.m., but at 8:20 a.m. when we heard Joey cry out and went to check on him, we found the poor little bug covered in vomit! He was so very sick and of course he and I stayed home and he continued vomiting probably every 10-15 minutes over the next 2.5 hours. Dean and Ben came home from the game and reported that it was a success! Most importantly Ben had a wonderful time, but he was also happy to report that he scored 3 baskets and made several assists! Dean was so proud of him and what a great team player he was. He loves to cheer on his teamates and give high fives. I was so sad to miss the game, but Dean and my dad assure me that they represented his cheering section well. Joe was pretty much attached to me all morning. It was actually really nice to just hold him for several hours. Joey is not always a big snuggler so I welcomed holding close his chubby, warm, little body...even though he didn't smell very good :) My amazing husband, in typical selfless fashion, even covered for me at a committment I had made through my MOPS group (Mothers Of Preschoolers) to work concessions at Ben Davis Christian Church during their Upwards Basketball games from 10:30-1:30! How sweet is that. Dean is a momma's boy at heart so he recognized the fact that little boys want their mommys when they are sick so he sacrificed his time to go work for me. What a great guy. Right now Joey is napping in his bed and Ben and Dean are snoring in Ben's bed. I also managed to sneak in a 30 minute nap this afternoon. Talk about blessings! In all seriousness though, I do feel tremendously blessed. During these horrible economic times when people are losing their jobs and stressing about retirement and 401K earnings (or lack there of), I can't believe how lucky we have been. Dean and I both have jobs that we really enjoy and allow us to maintain the lifestyle we want. Our kids are healthy (give or take the occasional pukefest!) and we love each other more than words can say. I am so blessed to be married to the best person I have ever met and I never knew a love like I have for my children. My heart skips a beat when I see my boys together...all three of them. I have been so very blessed. God is so good and I pray that He continues to watch over us and keep us healthy and safe. I also hope that He continues to remind me of all the "bwessings" in my life so that on days when I am feeling overwhelmed and impatient with my husband or kids (BEN), I can remember how great my life is and that there is no place on earth I would rather be and no people on earth I would rather be with. Thank you Lord!
