Happy Easter!

Year after year Easter emerges as one of my favorite holidays. The celebration weekend this year kicked off Friday night with Mal-Mal, Sissy, and Brookie joining us for some pizza (sissy - or perhaps the baby - was craving some papa johns) and easter egg dying. We had a great time and the dying went rather predictably -- Mallory was bored after 2 eggs, Joey sat still for approximately 45 seconds before he jumped down from his chair and started his own dance party, Brookie feigned interest but really just wanted to put the eggs in her mouth, and Ben, sweet, impatient Ben barely got an egg completely emersed in dye before he was ready to move on to the next egg and another color. I remained calm, which was rather unexpected, and had a great time supervising the action!
I am so surprised and disheartened by how early my big boy is questioning holiday "traditions." Ben casually asked me the other day, "mom, how does the Easter bunny have time to hide eggs and deliver baskets to all the boys and girls in ONE night?" To which I responded "well, it's magic." And then he dug the dagger further into my heart as he sweetly noted "well some people say the Easter bunny isn't real. And some people even say there is no Santa Claus." WHO ARE THESE SOME PEOPLE??!! Stay away from my baby you horrible innocence killers! I attempted to squelch the panic in my heart as I calmly (I hope) said, "well, Ben, sometimes you just have to have faith. You don't have to see everything to believe....plus the Easter Bunny doesn't deliver baskets or hide eggs for little boys and girls who don't believe in him!" :) So Ben dictated the below "checklist" as he called it to me prior to going to bed...in fact, I had already tucked him in when he came flying out of the room and said "Mom, I know how I can proove to the Easter Bunny that I believe in him and know for sure that he is real. I am going to leave a checklist for him to fill out about how good Joe and I are." Funny, clever boy!
Easter Sunday was a beautiful day with temperatures in the 70s and a beautiful sunny sky. Mallory had spent the night with us on Saturday so she and the boys had fun hunting for easter eggs and their easter baskets on Sunday morning. Joey was thrilled to discover that all the eggs hidden in the house had either money, jelly beans, or snickers inside of them. He didn't even really care about his basket...he just wanted more eggs! We all headed to church bright and early. The service was great with 9 baptisms and I enjoyed hearing Ben's interpretation of the Easter "story" on our way to church. He did a really good job and hit all the major points. After telling me that Easter was the day "Jesus woke up!" he then asked "So we celebrate Jesus being born on Christmas and being born again on Easter? Where is Jesus now?" I hate hard questions. Just kidding, I responded "Well, Jesus is in your heart now." Ben got a smirk on his face and said "Yes! I knew whenever I was being bad it was Jesus telling me to be bad." Nice try Bigs.
I thought my boys looked so handsome in their new church outfits that I couldn't resist snapping a few pics in the parking lot.
Following church we headed to Nanas, where the boys were treated to an outdoor easter egg hunt. It was hilarious watching Joey. He kept shaking the eggs and upon realizing they were empty, simply dropped them back on the ground. He wanted no part of the empty egg hunt!!! Poor Nana! Ben and I had fun searching for eggs!!
The boys made their way inside to find their easter baskets and were thrilled with all the loot inside. Nana definitely showed up the Easter Bunny!
We had a nice simple, easy lunch with Nana, Bampaw, Mal Mal, Uncle Craig, and Abby. After lunch the boys helped Nana plant some pansies and then we headed home...but not before Joey retired on the screened-in porch for a bit to relax and read a book. Be still my heart, the picutres below KILL me. I thought Joe looked so beautiful in the sunbeams shining through the screens.
Speaking of beautiful, not to be outdone, supermodel Benjamin posed for a lovely shot as well!
