I have so many lovely things to say about this past weekend...unfortunately I didn't blog about them before Sunday night hit, followed by Monday, and then oh dear, Tuesday. Anyway, the weekend at least was a blast.
The boys and I went to the Pacers game on Friday night. I was a bit apprehensive about taking them both by myself. I think this was perhaps our first venture to a Pacers game just the three of us?? The boys were AMAZING; so well behaved and I should not have been worried at all. They sat sweetly in their seats through the entire 1st quarter, managed to make it on the big screen within minutes of arriving, and charmed all of the fans sitting around us.
We took a break at the end of the 1st quarter to hit the bathroom and stock up on some snacks (popcorn for Ben and nachos or "chips and cheeeeese" for Joe) and then settled into watch the rest of the 1st half and the halftime show. Joey was ready to go about six minutes into the 3rd quarter and that sounded about right to me so we headed out. The boys stayed awake, per my request, on the way home, got into their jammies and read books without a fuss, and went straight to bed. Easy Peasy. A delightful night indeed!
Saturday my awesome husband surprised me with a date night (are you taking notes, boys?). He had arranged for the boys to spend the night at Nanas and he booked a hotel room for us at the Hyatt, dinner reservations at Harry & Izzy's, and acquired (with some help from CL and NB...thanks ladies!) some fantastic seats for Dreamgirls at The Murat. We had a wonderful night and laughed at the end of the evening when rather than going out for a drink since we didn't have to worry about driving home, we opted to hit up Steak and Shake for a Dr. Pepper (for Dean) and a hot chocolate (for me). My, my how times have changed!
Sunday we picked the boys up in the morning...probably not early enough for Nana since the boys woke up at 4:48 a.m. Stupid day light saving time. We headed home and worked in the yard. We all like yard work, which is always amusing to me since I vividly remember how much I H.A.T.E.D. working in the yard when I was younger. I mean hated it. Now I love it and enjoy the family time spent outdoors. I of course had to capture some photographic evidence of our joy.
I headed to church around 5 p.m. for youth group and that is when the weekend started to go downhill but more on that later. Prior to Sunday night I was thinking about how lucky I am. There is a song by Darius Rucker called Alright and I had the lyrics going through my head all afternoon "I got all I need, and it's alright by me." Anyway, I definitely have all I need and as I watched my three great loves play in the leaves it struck me how much I love my life. Every sweet, chaotic, messy, noisy, loving minute of it. It's definitely alright by me.
