Tonight we were all in the car when the BIG question was asked for the first time. You know, the BIG QUESTION.
Ben: "Hey Dad. Where do babies come from?"
Dean pretended to not hear him. A few seconds later...
Ben: "Hey Dad. Where do babies come from?"
Dean: "Ummm.....I don't know."
Ben: "Mom. Where do babies come from?"
Me: "Well, when mommies and daddies decide they want to have a baby they talk about it and then pray to God, asking him to send them a baby to join their family. Then the mommy and daddy get together, make a baby, and the baby is in the mommy's belly until it is time to be born."
Fortunately the conversation ended there...for a few more minutes.
Ben: "Mom. Do you think you will have any more babies?"
Me: "No, Ben. I don't think I will have any more babies."
Ben: "Well I want to have a baby sister so I am going to pray to God to send me a baby sister."
At this point my sweet Joe Bug yelled out "I want a baby sister too," clasps his hands together and says "God is good, God is great, and we thank you for please sending me a baby sister. Amen."
I then said to the boys, "remember guys, God hears your prayers but the answer is sometimes no. We don't always get what we want and just because we pray for something doesn't mean God will always say yes to our prayers and give us what we ask for." This prompted a conversation about the things the boys had prayed for in the past and not gotten (a drum set -- Ben and a jump house -- Joe).
Ben ended the conversation with this little gem. "Mom. Sometimes I pray to have a baby sister and sometimes I pray that you worked at Pizza Hut." What??? "Ben" I said, "you have a better chance of me giving you a baby sister than me working at Pizza Hut."
