Game On

A surprising revelation was made on Saturday...I actually like baseball! Who knew? It turns out that practices are boring as sin but actual baseball games are a delight and so fun to watch! Dean was out of town this weekend and, unfortunately, missed the first Reds game of the season. Ben was so fired up to play his best friend, Nathan's, team, the 89ers. At the end of the cold, cold, (did I mention, cold?) game the 89ers spanked the Reds but Ben was smiling and happy nonetheless.

Uncle Craig, Oma, Aunt Barbie, and Cousin Casey comprised Ben's cheering section and I called Dean each time Ben stepped up to the plate to give him a play-by-play. Ben struck out his first time at bat, but didn't seem overly worried about it. Ben made it to first base with his next at bat and then on to second (I think) before the inning ended. His big moment arrived at the top of the sixth inning, which is the final inning in this league. The score was 8-0, 89ers. Bases were loaded and there were two outs. Benny swung at and missed his first pitch. Strike one! He then had at least one foul ball before his bat met the ball and he ran to first base as not one but two of his teamates scored. Two RBIs for Ben! Woot woot! The rest of the inning went fast as the final score was 8-2. Good game 89ers!

Uncle Craig was particularly proud of Ben's poise under pressure. Ben was dissapointed that the Reds lost but had fun anyway and was impressed with Nathan's skills as catcher!

I had a great time watching Ben in action...though not a lot of action was seen when he was playing center field! Oh well, it's just nice to know that games are way, WAY more fun than practices.

Speaking of practices, we just got home from Ben's baseball practice tonight where he was awarded the game ball for his efforts and hustle on Saturday. Way to go Ben!
