Introducing Emerson

We decided that after 3-1/2 months without Jackson we were ready to re-introduce a dog into our family.  After much deliberation and internet searching we decided we wanted a goldendoodle (golden retriever/poodle mix).  This breed is typically hypoallergenic and sheds minimally.  Ideally we hoped to rescue a goldendoodle but after several weeks spent looking on petfinder.com with no luck we decided to contact a breeder.  After discovering that goldendoodles typically cost $2500-$3500 we began to question if that was really the breed for us!

As luck would have it, one night I randomly typed into google "goldendoodle puppies in Indiana" and several ads popped up including one for a liter of goldendoodle/lab pups.  The ad had been placed a month earlier but upon contacting the person who placed the ad, I discovered that she had one female pup left.

Dean and I purposely did not tell the boys about this dog and instead asked the owner several questions and discussed the pros and cons of adopting a puppy amongst ourselves.  Dean took me away to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and while there we decided we were ready to get our puppy.  Friday on our way home from our trip we took a detour to the farm near Edinbugh where our puppy was living.

The minute Dean saw her face he said softly under his breath "oh my goodness" and I knew he was hooked.  She was the sweetest little thing we had ever seen.  The owner did not name her but had been calling her angel puppy because she was so well behaved.

She truly is our angel puppy but we decided to give her the name Emerson and call her Emmy for short.  No special reason behind the name; we just like it!  Emmy is the sweetest, most lovable little puppy you have ever seen.  She loves to be held like a baby and is such a snuggle bug. She is a sleepy girl and can most often be found snoozing on the tiles in the bathroom or in my closet on top of my purses (such a little diva!).  Having grown up on a farm, Emmy loves being outside.  She took an hour and a half nap on the back steps this weekend and will stay outside all day long if we let her.  She is perfectly calm and laid back (exept when playing with Joey...we think she thinks he is a puppy.  She likes to chew on him and wrestle with him!!)and enjoys being around people but seems equally content to be by herself.  We are crate training her and she is doing a great job but is still not crazy about being in the crate.  She whines and cries but will eventually settle down.  She is only in the crate at night and when we are gone so she probably just needs some more time to get used to it.

Emerson is doing a pretty good job with potty training but that is mostly just because we are good about taking her out every few hours.  She doesn't really indicate to us yet that she needs to go outside and has had quite a few accidents inside.  We are working in it though and she does a great job going outside on command.  She is so smart and so proud of herself every time she goes!  It probably doesn't help that we practically do back handsprings as we praise her over and over for being such a good, good girl!

Emmy is a puppy so she chews on EVERYTHING she can get her little mouth on.  The boys are quickly learning to keep their toys and shoes picked up but Emerson doesn't discriminate, if those things aren't available, she is equally content to try to gnaw on the rug or the ottoman...hence is why we must crate train!

She is such a sweet girl and a wonderful addition to our family.  We are all so in love with our sweet Emerson Jackson (Joey insisted Jackson be a part of her name!) and she is well on her way to being spoiled rotten.
