Hey Batter Batter!

Ben plays baseball on Monday and Wednesday mornings in the Speedway Youth Sports Peanut League for 5-7 year olds. He absolutely LOVES it! Ben is on the As and has friends Jackson Smith and Jack Golden are on his team so he is a happy camper. Ben is the youngest player so we were a bit nervous as to whether or not he was ready, but since he played YMCA t-ball last year we thought we would give it a whirl. It is an awesome program and I am so grateful that he is enjoying it so much (no tears so far!)

The two coaches are friends of ours and are actually the head boys basketball coach and JV coach and the other "coaches" are a bunch of Speedway High School athletes. Coach Bennett and Coach Smith serve as pitcher with all the kids playing every other position with high school helpers scattered all over the field. Ben definitely loves to play close to home plate...pitcher's helper, short stop, or first/third base are his favorites since they see a lot of action. We have found, however, that it really doesn't matter what position Ben is told to play... he takes off at a dead sprint after every ball that is hit!

It is impossible to strike out in this league, but I don't think it has ever taken more than four pitches for Ben to make a hit. He has made it to first base a handful of times but typically gets tagged out at first. This is really surprising to Ben because he knows he runs so fast...he can see the smoke flying off his feet when he runs to first!!!!!!

Ben really loves baseball, especially playing in the dirt and running through the dirt fast enough to make it fly! He says he is going to be a professional baseball player when he grows up. We shall see.

Joey also loves going to Ben's baseball games. He wishes he was big enough to be out on the field and typically can be found wearing Ben's batting helmet and playing catch with mommy. He also loves the fact that the baseball diamond is next to the park so mommy spends a lot of time going back and forth from the diamond to the park. Daddy also comes to most of Ben's games, which means a lot to Ben. We love Monday and Wednesday mornings!
