Mommmmm. My room is leakin'!

Not the way I had hoped or expected to be summoned by Joey this afternoon. When I tucked my little bug into bed around 12:30 this afternoon, nothing was amiss. Around 2:30 Joey started yelling for me with the surprising announcement. "My room is leakin'!" Say what? I opened the door and indeed, Joe's room was leakin'! There was water (not quite pouring but very persistently and constantly dripping) from the top of the window and also (and more curiously) from the light fixture in the dead center of the room! I got a stock pot to catch the water from the light fixture and towels to put on the window ledge and floor and after failed attempts to get the light fixture down, called my dad to see if he could come help. In the meantime, I opened the window to check on my neighbor who was working on thawing out his gutters with a hairdryer because he too had sprung a leak inside and was trying to unclog the gutters. Dave ended up coming over and getting the light fixture down for me. A short time after my dad arrived, our insurance adjuster/family friend sent her husband (firefighter Ande) over to assess the damage. Ande climbed in the attic and then CLIMBED ON THE ROOF to check it out. Did I mention that the boys have been home from school FOUR days this week due to a major ice storm that has dropped about two inches of ice? I was so not pleased to have Ande walking around on my roof pounding the ice with a hammer to try to clear it from the roof in an effort to stop the leaking, which it did. And Ande didn't die which was a plus as well. Anyway, just a little bit of excitement and a swell way to end a crazy week. This latest house drama also kept up with our trend of ALWAYS having "tragedy" strike when Dean is either out of town or at work. The Pacers played tonight so he was not only at work when the leak occurred, but was not due to arrive home for another nine hours or so. Being a homeowner is such a joy.
