First (and Last???) Trip to the Principal
I managed to make it 13 years through school (K-12) without ever getting called to the principal's office. Benjamin made it almost 4 weeks! I received a phone call around 12:45 yesterday afternoon...
Hi Melanie, it is Dr. Wolfe from Wheeler. Everything is fine! I just wanted to let you know that Ben is mortified that he had to come to the principal's office today. There was an incident at recess this morning. A group of boys didn't want to play with another little boy and Melanie I don't blame them as the other little boy was being mean. Anyway, the little boy picked up a rock and threw it at Ben. Ben is fine, there is no physical damage to him. But Ben picked up a stick and started walking toward the boy like he was going to hit him with it. Mrs. Mayhan told Ben to drop the stick and brought both boys to the principal's office. Ben was hysterical! He was so worried he was in trouble and I assured him that he was not. The other little boy did get sent home for being physically violent but I just talked to Ben about choices. I told him he was not in trouble but I did say, Ben you picked up a stick, what would have been a better choice? To which Ben quickly responded ignoretellateacheerwalkaway. I laughed and told him that would have been a much better choice. I wanted to tell you that I always call parents when their kids have to come to the principal but I also wanted to give you a heads up that Ben was truly horrified and traumatized by the experience so you should prepare yourself for him to be pretty emotional after school. I also wanted to tell you that you should be very proud of Ben. He is a great kid.
I thanked Dr. Wolfe for her time and thought she handled the situation great. I was so anxious to pick up Ben. He was not at all tearful when he saw me after school as I thought he might be but rather jumped in the car and said "Ok, here is the situation. I had to go to the principal's office but I WAS NOT in trouble. What happened is Habib threw a rock AT MY WIENER." Ben filled in some more details, such as the fact that Mrs. Mayhan had sent Ben to the bathroom to wash his face before seeing the princial and Dr. Wolfe had to go into the boys bathroom to get Ben because he was crying so hard! "Well, she actually had to almost carry me out because I was holding onto the sink!!! She told me "Ben, listen to me, listen to me. You are not in trouble. You know who this is going to end badly for? Habib. You know who this is going to end well for? You. Let's get out of the bathroom!"
Drama. Drama. Drama.

This was the funniest entry! I feel bad for Ben and proud of Ben. He is so hilarious with his "retelling" of the story is classic!
